One Year Later...

So it's officially been a year since I started my internship at Lexi Photography and I have to say it was the best experience of my whole life. Everyone that graduated from The New England Institute of Art has to do an internship for 120 hours, and I've heard some stories... I've heard some horror stories, and some disappointing stories. Now, I don't know every single person that has ever had to intern through Ai, but I do know that my internship was the best. My internship landed me a job, so I'm in that 5 % of people who actually get a job after they graduated with their internship (yes, I am bragging a little).

Internships are supposed to teach you how to really do your intended job. In my case, she didn't teach me how to use my camera, but more so how to make my camera work for me and my clients. She taught me the importance of making your clients feel relaxed -- which is close to impossible come wedding day, she taught me to pay someone to do the parts of the job that you hate (because those parts make you hate the job itself) and, what I value the most, how to be true to yourself as a photographer and as business owner.

The first wedding she brought me to was Marie and Brendan's. Here I learned why she uses such a low F-stop and how to use the back focus button. Marie and Brendan taught me that having a partner to laugh with makes every event awesome.

Then we had Alice and Hans. Lexi taught me here to take pictures of everything, and enjoy the down moments. Alice and Hans taught me to cherish family, because without family you really don't have much.

A few weeks later I traveled to New Castle, NH to photograph Laura and Bob. Here I learned the importance of timing, creating a schedule and the beauty of the 50 mm lens. Laura and Bob taught me to enjoy each moment as it's given to you.

Then we had the double header weekend. Saturday there was Kim and Jack, where I learned that not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, and how to make them feel at ease. Kim and Jack taught me that life is full of surprises.

Sunday was Amanda and Evan. By far the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to. Lexi taught me to put the couples wants above anyone else at the wedding, even if you're 30 minutes behind schedule and loosing daylight. Amanda and Evan taught me to slow down and welcome moments of solitude. Then, we had our last wedding of the season.

Carolyn and Maurice were so much fun and completely in love with each other. Here I learned how to control a crowd (their wedding party had something like 18 or 20 people in it and they were all so happy and excited). Carolyn taught me to always show how much you love someone, and Maurice taught me to stay cool under pressure.

I am so glad I am finally able to share these images with you guys, it's a nice visual of how I've grown with a little story attached :) Happy Monday!

Thank you again Lexi, for being my mentor :)
